What We Do

Culturally-Adapted Engineering Support

In collaboration with community stakeholders

  • Conduct data collection and needs assessments in collaboration with community stakeholders.

  • Water treatment systems will be customized to respect traditional practices and cultural values.

Project Management

Comprehensive Project Management Support

  • Oversee the design, procurement, construction and installation of water treatment systems, applying best practices.

  • Collaborate with contractors and suppliers who align with IWP values, locally where realistic.

  • Comprehensive Project Management Support: include detailed checklists and coaching, guiding members through each phase from initiation to operations and maintenance. This thorough support ensures that no detail is overlooked. Our goal is to support and build in-house project management capacity and training of local staff.

  • Deliverables will include documents required to obtain infrastructure funding.

Operator Training and Capacity-Building

Community training programs

  • Develop - with experienced partners - and implement training programs on system operation and maintenance.

  • Workshops for community members on system operation and maintenance

  • Run concerted campaigns including increased funding to encourage community members to become water system operators.

  • Further scope and format of community training programs will be developed and will specify which certifications and skills will be gained from these programs, including a timeline for these showing that capacity building is a long-term priority.

Water Quality Monitoring

And Infrastructure Evaluation

  • Emulate Municipal/Provincial approach to assessment of water quality and system performance to ensure ongoing effectiveness.

  • Embrace new remote monitoring technology where useful and possible (ie. Ketos, others).

  • Respect data sovereignty by working with experienced Indigenous specialists.

Engagement and Collaboration with Client Communities

A Detailed Community Consultation Process

  • Regularly engage with communities to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments.  Ensure regular/ongoing community consultations to maintain alignment with the values and needs of the communities being served.

  • Inclusive Collaboration: prioritize an inclusive approach by engaging all stakeholders—finance, users, capital managers, decision-makers, and community members. This ensures that every voice is heard and contributes to the project’s success.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: acknowledge the diverse cultural teachings across Indigenous communities to avoid pan-Indigenizing gender roles.

  • Women’s Wisdom, regardless of formal water-keeping roles, is a key value and strength of the Partnership.

  • Flexible and adaptable approach, to the cultural needs and gender norms of each Nation.
